"Canon Cameras"
Originally established in 1933 as Seiki Kogaku (Precision Optical Research Laboratory), this firm concentrated on 35mm cameras. The Seiki Kogaku name was used through the end of WWII. In 1947 the company name was changed to Canon Camera Co., and the Seiki Kogaku name was dropped. The Canon name was derived from the first 35mm cameras designed by the company in 1933, which were called Kwanon.
