Stock No 2642 Austral No 3 A large box camera, 8 1/2 X 7 X 4 1/4". It is of the "falling plate magazine" type, so called because it held 10-12 individual plate or sheet film holders in "magazine" inside the camera, and as each exposure was made, a lever was pushed and the plate fell to the floor of the camera, leaving the next one in place for the next picture. This one has 10 plate holders, and it all works. A simple T & I shutter, and 3 apertures on a slide. The camera is badged an Austral No 3 Registered. It is serial # 231009 for those who need to know such things. Austral was an early Kodak Australia brand, but this camera was probably sold by Baker and Rouse, a photo chemical manufacturer who were the sole distributors of Kodak goods in Australia at the turn of the 20th century. The camera is more than likely made by Houghtons in the UK, and rebadged here by B&R. Made of cheap leather/material covered wood, these cameras are now scarce, and rarely found in working order. ~ The cosmetics of the camera are good. Still has its original carry strap, the metal viewfinder surrounds are tarnished, and the covering needs a clean. There are a couple of small bits of covering missing from the bottom rear of the camera, but these are not noticeable on display, and are small! There is light rust on the inside of the camera surface. All the internal metal parts are uncoated, except for the actually film holders. |

Stock No 2847 Kodak No. 2 Brownie Model F. Made in the US in the late 20's, the coloured Box Brownies were part of a marketing program of the Eastman Kodak Company to get ladies into photography. The coloured cameras were pushed as much as a fashion accessory as a photographic apparatus, but did not catch on that well, and consequently are rather scarce today; both their appearance and rarity making them a sought after collectible 80 years on. The #2 Brownie range took 120 rollfilm, so you could try this one out if you decide to carry it round with your matching blue outfit. ~ This is a blue No. 2 Brownie Model F. It is in very good condition, with minor markings on the blue leatherette covering. The covering is complete and unshrunken, and is not lifting. The blue enamel trim has some chipping, but still looks good. The camera still has its original solid leather BLUE carry strap. |
